Stage 2 Restrictions

Water restrictions in place in West Kelowna

Apr 24, 2024 | 2:39 PM

West Kelowna residents must watch their water consumption.

On Wednesday, April 24, the city implemented Stage 2 water restrictions, effective immediately and until further notice.

Under the restrictions, outdoor irrigation of lawns and landscapes are only permitted for even-numbered addresses on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and on Sundays and Wednesdays for odd-numbered addresses.

Also under the Stage 2 restrictions, properties with automated sprinkler systems may only irrigate between midnight and 6 a.m. on permitted days; and properties with manually controlled sprinkler systems may irrigate between midnight and 11 a.m. or between 6 p.m. and midnight on their allotted days.

It was noted that sprinkling is never allowed between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

People can still hand water landscape and vegetable plants during the day, but not lawns.

“Below normal snowpacks, ongoing drought in 2024 and high customer demand are keeping reservoirs from filling as they normally would this time of year,” the City of West Kelowna stated in a release.

“All customers are asked to immediately reduce outdoor water use by 30 per cent to conserve resources.”

The city added that if drought conditions persist, further restrictions may need to be put in place.
