Province provides $500,000 in gaming grants to Vernon groups
The North Okanagan Hospice Society and Vernon Pickleball Association are two of the local non-profit groups benefiting from community gaming grants from the B.C. government.
The Hospice Society received $250,000 to renovate the nursing station and staff service areas at its hospice facility on 27th Avenue in Vernon, and to upgrade the security system, creating more space for nurses and patients in the medication and consultation rooms.
“As a nurse, the safety and comfort of staff and patients is always my top priority,” Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee, said. “I am so proud that our government recognizes that and continues to help non-profits like the North Okanagan Hospice Society to pay for large projects that create more space and better security in our health-care facilities.”
The Vernon Pickleball Association also got a $250,000 grant to construct its new building called The Herrmann House, located next to the existing pickleball complex in Marshall Fields.
