A proposed property tax hike will be discussed by Vernon city council next month.

After finding an error in the background report calculations, the proposed tax hike that was first presented in early April was brought forward at council’s meeting Monday, April 22, where it was rescinded.

Council then approved moving ahead with average increases of 4.79 per cent for residential properties, or an extra $86 for the average home, and commercial property taxes are set to go up 4.96 per cent.

The proposal was given third reading Monday, allowing staff to draft a bylaw that will be brought forward for fourth and final reading at the May 13 meeting.
