Host team no longer unbeaten at Esso Cup

The host team suffered their first loss at the Esso Cup on Tuesday.

The North York Storm from Ontario had 52 shots on net in a 5-0 victory over the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers at Kal Tire Place in Vernon.

The Storm got two goals from Olivia VanSickle to get their second win of the tournament after an overtime loss on Monday to the Northern Selects from Atlantic Canada.

Lakers goalie Denali Forsyth of Salmon Arm was one of the game leaders despite allowing five goals as her save percentage was .902.

The host Lakers fall to 2-1 and next play at 10 a.m. Wednesday against the Regina Rebels.

Tuesday’s early game saw the Northern Selects from Atlantic Canada get their second win, 3-1 over the Quebec reps, L’Intrepide De L’outaouais, who fell to 0-3.

The late game saw the Edmonton Junior Oilers (Pacific) edge the Regina Rebels (Western) 2-1 in overtime.

The top four teams after the round robin on Thursday advance to the semi finals on Friday.

TSN will broadcast the gold medal game on Saturday, April 27 at 4 p.m. PT.
