Vernon Fire Rescue Service’s fleet has been enhanced.
A new fire engine is available for use after being pushed into the fire hall by emergency personnel and members of City Council.
The push-in ceremony is a tradition dating back to the 1800s when fire crews used horse-drawn equipment that could not be backed into fire halls by the animals and instead needed to be pushed in by crews after attending a fire.
The new fire engine replaces a 28-year-old apparatus, and having it means VFRS now has a Fire Underwriters Survey recognized apparatus at each of its three stations.
