Fundraiser launched to help repair the Enderby Arena

Apr 4, 2024 | 1:19 PM

Enderby came up short in its bid for Kraft Hockeyville 2024, but an online fundraiser has been launched to help the North Okanagan community reopen its arena and curling facility.

Lumby Hockeyville 2016 team leader Angie Clowry started a GoFundMe aimed at raising as much as possible for the Enderby Arena which has been closed since January due to refrigeration issues.

The repairs are estimated to cost up to $2 million.

Clowry said if each of the 5,100 people in the Vote Enderby for Kraft Hockeyville Facebook group donated $50, the city would have $255,000 to put towards the upgrades.

Enderby was one of four Canadian finalists for the Hockeyville title, which was won by Elliot Lake, Ontario which will receive $250,000 to upgrade its arena.

Enderby, and the two other finalists in Cochrane, Alberta and Wolseley, Saskatchewan, will each get $25,000.

Clowry says when Lumby won eight years ago, they received $100,000 from Kraft while local grants and fundraising added another $100,000.

“Those funds were then used to apply for federal grants. That is how Lumby’s Pat Duke Arena has $3 million in upgrades which includes all new change rooms with a female change room as that was the goal of the winnings,” Clowry said.

Clowry said there are a few ways to get involved.

1) Donate to the GoFundMe

2) Drop-off cash or a cheque at the City of Enderby office and ask to have it go to arena and curling rink repairs.

3) Send an email to the City of Enderby and ask how to e-transfer a donation: $50 & up receives a receipt

4) Challenge a friend or a business to make a $100 donation on social media and share it to the Facebook group or tag the Vote Enderby Instagram account.
