People travelling between B.C.’s Interior and Alberta this spring may experience some delays.

The province says the final work on Phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon upgrade will begin Tuesday, April 2.

The project will involve paving, line painting, installing wildlife fencing and landscaping along the highway east of Golden.

During the course of the work, Highway 1 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and there may also be two-minute stoppages during work hours.

The speed limit for the section of highway involved in the project will be reduced to 50 km/h during the course of the work, and drivers are reminded to obey signs and watch for traffic-control personnel.

Full closures of up to two hours are schedule for April 3, 15 and 29, as well as on May 13. There will also be early morning temporary closures on June 10, 11, 24 and 25.
