Nov 6, 2023 | 1:50 PM

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a hit and run driver in Vernon Monday morning.

RCMP say at around 4:40 a.m. on Nov. 6, they received a report a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 4300-block of 25th Avenue near the city’s water reclamation facility.

“Frontline officers arrived at the location where Vernon Fire Rescue Service and BC Emergency Health Service personnel were tending to a person on the roadway. The male victim was critically injured and sadly did not survive,” Const. Chris Terleski said.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name, pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

“Evidence collected from the scene lead investigators believe the man was struck by a vehicle that was travelling eastbound on 25th Avenue,” Terleski added.

Detours were in effect for that part of the street as police investigated, including a member of the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service.
