Haunted House spooking visitors for Halloween

Oct 30, 2023 | 2:00 PM

There is still time to check out the Vernon Haunted House on 39th Avenue which is offering visitors a spectacular spooky, immersive, experimental experience.

Organizers say it’s the only haunted house in town featuring both live performers and immersive scenes that is entirely operated through donation.

“The Haunted House on 39th has been a self-sustaining offering, serving the neighbourhoods around it for over four years. It is the brainchild of creative designer Sue Allin, together with performers and collaborators from three different horror-loving families,” a news release sent to Vernon Matters said.

The event usually scares between 500 and 700 people during a Halloween weekend, and this year, the youngest member of one of the families — a 4-year-old ghost — is taking to the stage for the first time.

“There’s a strong focus on carnival themes this year, with a lot of Tim Burton-inspired brilliance sprinkled in,” the news release stated.

The shows started over the weekend and will wrap up on Halloween, at 7 p.m. at 2505 39th Ave., with a suggested donation of $5.

Proceeds above and beyond costs of running the show are donated to the Food Bank.
