Some of world’s best in Vernon for curling classic

Curling fans will want to check out the Vernon Curling Club this weekend.

The facility is hosting the 2023 Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic from Thursday, Sept. 28 to Sunday, Oct. 1.

Play begins on Thursday evening at 7 p.m., with four draws Friday, five on Saturday, and playoffs all day on Sunday.

“We have some of the best teams in the world participating,” club manager Dave Merklinger said. “Teams from Japan, Korea, China, Switzerland, Manitoba, Alberta and of course our own B.C. teams.”

Teams from the local area are Tyler Orme, Rob Nobert, Kaiden Beck, Dave Belway, Corryn Brown and Jeff Richard, who all have national experience.

There are 20 women’s, and 20 men’s, teams playing for a total prize money of $54,000.

Admission to the event is free.
