East Adams Lake Fire shows reduced behaviour

Jul 27, 2023 | 5:10 PM

Cooler weather is limiting growth and reducing fire behaviour on the Lower East Adams Lake wildfire in the Shuswap.

The fire is still estimated at 2,000 hectares, and is 2.3 kilometres from the nearest residence.

On July 26, the fire was burning at Rank 1 and 2, which is a smoldering ground fire with limited open flame. That was down from earlier this week when Rank 3 and 4 fire behaviour was observed.

This fire remains burning in steep terrain that is not accessible for ground crews.

Helicopters will continue to be deployed by the BC Wildfire Service throughout the three fires in the area depending on operational priorities.

The Wildfire Service incident management team is working with Interfor to create a strategy for machine guards on the northwest to northeast flanks where feasible.

Evacuation alerts remain in effect for about 100 properties.
