The Vernon Cadet Camp filled up this weekend.

A total of 298 cadets arrived in Vernon to take part in courses Sunday, July 16.

Jissel Acevedo, unit public affairs representative for the Vernon Cadet Training Centre, told Vernon Matters there were 58 cadets enrolled in the Air Rifle Marksmanship Instructor Course (AMRI), 98 in the Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course (DCI), 95 in the Fitness and Sports Instructor Course (FSI), and 47 participating in the Military Band Musician Course (MB).

Acevedo added the number of participating cadets this year is slightly above average, but could not provide figures for courses in past years.

Each of the courses will provide cadets with opportunities to further their skills related to the subject matter.

Those include marksmanship techniques in the ARMI, advanced parade drills in the DCI, assessing and leading physical activities through the FSI, and learning music theory and techniques and participating in band drills through the MB course.

The cadets will also learn instructional and leadership techniques related to their specific course material, and will have opportunities to advance certifications int heir specific courses.

There are 89 staff cadets overseeing the courses and the cadets.

The courses will run until August 5. The cadet graduation ceremony will be held August 4.
