Simply Delicious Natural and Gourmet Market buys fresh from local farmers

Simply Delicious Natural and Gourmet Market owner Cameron Grant is passionate about providing customers with top quality local products. One of those suppliers is former lawyer turned farmer Owen Madden and his wife Emily.

Their farm, Shuswap Organics is producing top quality greens and other produce on land near Grindrod.

“For the last five to six years we have always had an interest in environmental issues and climate change and we figure the best role we can play is to grow food for people and bring it to them locally,” Madden said. “The produce travels less distance, less polluting, it is higher quality, it is better for your body, we are certified organic so we are avoiding all the pesticides, herbicides, GMO, which can be hard on our bodies”.

Owen is a self described recovered lawyer from Ireland. He practised as a criminal prosecutor in Dublin before re-training in Global Climate Change Law. He found his way to Vancouver where he worked in environmental law, and then in full-scale public environmental advocacy with a focus on avoiding climate chaos. Marrying a farmer (Emily) led to relocation and discovery of a love for the creation of organic foods, which led to the creation of Shuswap Organics. Emily grew up on Bowen Island, studied environmental science at university, and spent nearly ten years working on food security and urban agriculture projects in the Vancouver area. She loves living in the North Okanagan, and the amazing community of organic farmers in the region.

“We started out mostly with farmers markets and we recognized there are a lot of people that can’t get to farmers markets on Friday or Saturday, so we reached out to stores and said we do what we do and can provide products at a price that works for you,” Madden added. People are getting more and more concerned about the quality of their food, we have found some great supporters like Simply Delicious and we are happy to give the job of serving the public to them. They stepped up and said what you do is of interest to us and we want to represent that fresh food that you have.”
