Chiropractors are extensively educated in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and management of spine, muscle, and nervous system (also known as musculoskeletal or MSK) conditions. They recommend a course of treatment to help relieve pain and improve function without surgery or pharmaceuticals such as manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise, modalities (ultrasound, laser, etc.), rehabilitation, and patient education. Chiropractors are also trained to provide nutritional counselling, as well as recommend injury prevention strategies. Specific training in spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) allows chiropractors to provide adjustments using highly-skilled and precise movements to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function.

We asked Doctor Cameron Grant from Vernon’s AllCare Chiropractic and Laser for the top reasons for visits to his clinic.

1: Joint Or Muscle Pain

If you are experiencing pain in your muscles and joints, your first reaction should not be to get the aspirin out of your medicine cabinet. Your pain could be due to problems with musculoskeletal alignment.

A chiropractor is trained to make sure your body is functioning as optimally as possible by using spinal manipulations to relieve pain in your joints and muscles. These spinal adjustments will increase blood flow and nerve conductivity to the joints and muscles that are experiencing pain.

2: You have limited range of motion

If you have trouble bending, shoulder checking or experience tightness during stretching a chiropractor may be able to help. Sometimes this is due to a structural misalignment with your joints leading to tight muscles.

3: You sit often

Sitting can put a lot of abnormal stress on our bodies, especially the lower back. A chiropractor can help unwind this tension by getting the joints moving properly. Most Chiropractors will give advice on posture and suggest stretches to avoid future problems.

4: You have had physical trauma

Whether you got in a car crash, or have played sports, both micro and macro trauma adds up in the body. This trauma can lead to structural imbalances and degenerative conditions.

5: You want to live a more health-conscious life

Chiropractors are full of knowledge of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Most of them are vitality-minded, meaning they recognize the body’s ability to heal and work to help the body express the innate potential within.

6: You experience tingling in an arm or leg

A lot of times this can be attributed to pressure on a nerve. A chiropractor is trained in finding the root cause and addressing it.

7: You have a lot of stress

Chiropractic treatments can help stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation and reducing stress.

8: Your body feels like it is not running at it’s best

A less than optimally functioning nervous system can be a cause of fatigue, aches and pain, headaches, etc. A goal of most chiropractors is to help remove interference to the nervous system, and in turn increase the function of the body.

9: You notice postural imbalances in your body

These asymmetries can show up as one shoulder being higher than the other, rotated hips or even a crooked nose. Chiropractors are trained in seeing misalignments in the body and work to restore balance in the structure.

10: The soles of your shoes wear out differently

One heel might be more worn than the other, or at an angle. This is a tell-tale sign that some-thing in the structure of your body is off.
