The annual Vernon Winter Carnival parade will run on a different route from previous years.

The event will begin at the staging area on 27th Street between 39th and 43rd Avenues. (near Seaton Secondary) Saturday, Feb 4.

The parade will then proceed down 27th St., make a right turn on 30th Avenue by the courthouse, turn right on 29th Street, turn left on 32nd Avenue, make a right onto 31st Street and head north to the ending point at 39th Avenue.

“The parade route has changed this year to maintain public access to the downtown transit exchange and minimize disruptions to public transit service. However, the parade timing and staging areas remain the same as in years past,” a city news release stated.

The parade route will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the staging areas, which includes the surrounding side streets, will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The parade will begin at noon Saturday.

Motorists are advised to use Highway 97 (32nd Street) for north-south travel, or to use alternate routes for driving downtown.

The parade will also cause some complications for transit users.

Due to road closures around the downtown core, Vernon Regional Transit routes 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 60 will be temporarily affected.

Transit information and updates will be made available through B.C. Transit’s website.
