No open burning in Coldstream

The warm, dry weather this fall is disrupting plans for open burning.

The District of Coldstream has announced a suspension of fall open burning permits due to the B.C. Wildfire Service’s ongoing ban on category 2 and 3 open fires.

“The provincial prohibitions apply to all public and private land,” a district news release stated.

Property owners in Coldstream with land parcels of two hectares (4.94 acres) or larger can normally apply for open burning permits during designated periods each spring and fall.

The Wildfire Service is extending the category 2 and 3 open fire prohibition throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction until Oct. 28, 2022, or until rescinded.

“This prohibition is being extended to help prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety due to continued unseasonably warm and dry conditions,” the service stated.

The following equipment and activities remain banned throughout Kamloops Fire Centre:

  • Category 2 open fire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation
  • Category 3 open fire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation
  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description, except when used for a campfire as defined by the Wildfire Regulation
  • Binary exploding targets.
