Shuswap firefighters assisting at Keremeos Creek wildfire
Firefighters from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) are lending a hand at the scene of the Keremeos Creek wildfire.
The CSRD said the six firefighters, who have been broken up into two teams, have been dispatched to the fire southwest of Penticton to support the B.C. Wildfire Service’s efforts with structure protection and fire suppression.
The members who stepped up to help tackle the fire, which as of Wednesday morning was an estimated 2,790 hectares in size, are Kara Slous, Tony Smith, Matthew Denny, Warren Van Zyl, Kelsey Phillips and Trevor Broadbent.
Meanwhile, six fires continue to burn in the CSRD area. All but one are classified as being held or are new fire reports, and only the fire near North Humamilt Forest Service Rd. is classified as out of control, though it remains under one hectare in size.
