A tradition expands with a way to give

Warming Homes, Warming Hearts

Even a place with hot sunny summers still needs warmth in the winter. For 25 years, Applewood Heating and Air Conditioning has been providing heat for those in need. So when one of their furnace suppliers, Lennox, introduced the Feel the Love program in 2018, it was a perfect fit.

How It Works
Feel The Love gives neighbours and dealers like Applewood a chance to team up to improve the lives of deserving people in our communities.

  1. People in the community nominate someone in need,
  2. Applewood volunteers the labour and materials, and
  3. Lennox provides the equipment.

Who To Nominate

The Feel The Love program helps

  • Someone who puts others first
  • Those who might be facing hard times
  • Someone in need of a helping hand.

One example is Lindsay. A single mom of two boys, one of which is developmentally disabled. Lindsay had also been caring for her ailing mother who had recently passed away. She also cares for her community by volunteering at her church, Hospice House, and the soup kitchen.

Her home is 100 years old, and her furnace was 40 years old. Someone nominated Lindsay and her family for Feel The Love.

Here’s what happened next…

  • A total of 16 volunteers from Applewood came out to help with the installation of her new furnace.
  • While replacing the furnace, one volunteer noticed a broken window. After a quick trip to Nelson Glass in Armstrong, who provided the glass free of charge, the window was replaced and resealed.
  • Several volunteers got to work cleaning up the vines and bushes that had overtaken the front porch.
  • One volunteer identified and fixed a stubborn leak in the plumbing below the bathroom too.

Along with the extra TLC to her home, the new Lennox furnace will help Lindsay and her boys rest easy knowing that they won’t have to worry about furnace repairs for a long time.

Melody is another Feel the Love recipient. A well-recognized volunteer around Lumby, Melody is known particularly through her volunteerism at the food bank.

She’d been without heat for several months, and couldn’t afford to replace or to repair her furnace. When a community nomination set Feel the Love into motion, Lennox graciously provided a furnace even though they’d already met their maximum for the year, and Applewood volunteered the labour and materials.

Another example is Angie. She inherited her mobile home from her parents, who she moved to the area to care for until they passed away.

Now disabled by health issues, Angie had been paying off an Applewood repair bill $50 at a time as she could not afford to pay in full on her fixed income.

An Applewood staff member nominated Angie for Feel the Love. When she didn’t qualify for the Lennox contribution, Applewood stepped in anyway and provided a new furnace to her at no charge. They also made some repairs to the roof jack to ensure the furnace exhaust could vent safely.

New This Year

Feel The Love initially offered a furnace, but Lennox is now offering a complete HVAC system. With a furnace and air conditioner, recipients can be comfortable in every season and “feel the love” all year long.
