Boil water notice downgraded

Residents in a rural area near Enderby are no longer having to boil their drinking water.

Mabel Lake Water, along with Interior Health, have downgraded a boil water notice issued on June 26, to a water quality advisory.

The Regional District of North Okanagan says the advisory will be in effect until the turbidity levels have returned to acceptable levels and sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe.

“The turbidity levels that went over 5.0 NTU, which triggered the boil water notice, have now decreased; however, they are still exceeding acceptable levels (1.0 NTU), which is why a WQA is necessary,” a news release from the utility stated.

Until the WQA is rescinded, young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems should exercise caution, and all customers may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using it for the following purposes:

  • drinking
  • brushing teeth
  • washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • making beverages or ice
