The B.C. Centre for Disease Control is reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases throughout the province, including in Vernon.

The newest weekly report from the BCCDC states that the Vernon Health Area was home to seven cases of COVID-19 between June 26 and July 2. That figure is up from the four cases confirmed in the area the week prior.

Additionally, cases are up week to week in the Interior and in all of B.C.

The latest week saw 97 cases confirmed in the Interior and 765 in British Columbia, up from the 72 and 620 cases the week before.

While case figures did climb in the latest reporting week, regional and provincial hospital admissions did decline.

The weekly report showed six hospitalizations in the Interior, down from 16 the week before, and 172 in all of B.C., down from 209.

B.C.’s total deaths linked to COVID-19 in the latest week were recorded at 24, down from the 33 in the previous week. However, the Interior was home to six of those deaths, which was an increase from the five confirmed the week prior.

To date, there have been 375,357 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in B.C., 66,816 of which were in the Interior. The Vernon Health Area has also been home to 5,590 of those cases.

There have been 3,788 deaths linked to COVID-19 in B.C., 541 of which were in the Interior.
