COVID-19 figures on the decline in Interior

Interior Health is seeing COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths linked to the virus on the decline.

The weekly report from the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) showed there were 218 cases of COVID-19 in the Interior between May 22 and 28, down from the 281 cases the week before.

The report stated there were 29 people admitted to hospital with COVID-19, down from the 63 hospital admissions the previous week.

There were 10 deaths reported in the Interior during the week, down from the 14 confirmed the week prior.

Interior Health had the third highest figures for cases in B.C. after Fraser Health (414) and Vancouver Coastal Health (276).

The report shows the Interior had the fourth highest hospitalization figure during the week after Fraser Health (130), Vancouver Coastal (56) and Island Health (37).

The Interior also had the third highest death toll in the week after Fraser Health (13) and Vancouver Coastal (11).

In all of B.C., there were 1,163 cases of COVID-19, 265 hospital admissions and 44 deaths. All of those figures were down from the previous week which saw 1,358 cases, 345 hospital admissions and 72 deaths.

To date, there have been 371,720 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the province and 3,002 pre-transition deaths from case line lists and 545 post-transition deaths from automated linkage.

In the Interior, there have been 66,302 confirmed cases of the virus, with 367 pre-transition and 120 post-transition deaths.
