Fire officials are reminding residents to use caution with heat-generating appliances after a fire in West Kelowna.

At 8:30 this morning (Apr. 26), West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) responded to a blaze in a bathroom at a single-family home in the 4000-block of Solana Place that was caused by a curling iron.

Crews quickly put out the fire, containing it to the bathroom, with no spread to the rest of the house.

“The bathroom where the fire originated suffered charring to the vanity and heat damage to the walls and ceiling,” said assistant fire chief Brent Watson. “There was also some smoke damage to the upper floor.”

Watson said the property is insured and there were no injuries.

“Given the accidental nature of this fire, WKFR reminds residents to use heat-generating appliances with caution, especially when they are in close proximity to other combustible materials,” Watson added.
