Skiers getting early start on Nordic season

Winter may not officially have arrived, but the local ski season is underway.

The Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre opened its trails Nov. 12, while Silver Star Mountain Resort hits the green light on its Nordic runs today (Nov. 26).

The resort is reporting a snow base of 63 centimetres in the village and 91 cm at alpine level.

Sovereign Lake is just over a week away form hosting its first FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski) race of the year on December 4 and 5.

“We will also be hosting, as part of this competition, the Mexican National Ski Championships. We’re excited to host our friends from Mexico and other International athletes back at Sovereign Lake, said a posting on the SLNC website.

Silver Star Resort is also just a week away from its tentative opening date for the alpine season on Friday, Dec. 3.
