One COVID-19 death and 93 new cases in Interior

The COVID-19 death toll for the Interior has reached 288, as another death was recorded in the health region Thursday.

The death was one of three reported across the province, and to date 2,136 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19.

The Interior’s active case count rose to 608 as 93 new cases were reported in the region.

Those cases were part of 424 identified across B.C., and the province’s active case count was 3,061

The Ministry of Health said there were 295 British Columbians in hospital due to complications from COVID-19, and 112 of those patients are in intensive care.

As of Thursday, the province’s first-dose vaccination rate was 91 per cent, and 87.5 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over have received both jabs.

The province and the B.C. Centre for Disease Control state that over the past week, 55.1 per cent of new COVID-19 cases were in unvaccinated individuals, while the fully vaccinated accounted for 41.1 per cent of positive test results. The unvaccinated also accounted for 62.5 per cent of COVID hospitalizations over the past two weeks, while the double-dosed made up 31.6 per cent of patients.

The Interior is no longer home to any health-care facility outbreak sites, as the Royal Inland Hospital outbreak in Kamloops was declared over Thursday. There are now 10 facilities in all of B.C. considered active outbreak sites.
