The MP for North Okanagan-Shuswap is pleased with his new role in the Conservative Party’s shadow cabinet.

Mel Arnold, who is starting his third term as a member of parliament, has been appointed as the deputy shadow minister for fisheries, oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, by party leader Erin O’Toole.

“Canada’s fisheries, marine species and aquatic habitats are shared resources that must be conserved for present and future generations and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to continue to serve on this portfolio,” Arnold said.

Arnold will be working with shadow minister Rick Perkins, and thanked O’Toole for his confidence in posting him to the position.

“My experiences working in grassroots conservation organizations prior to being elected combined with experiences I have had working on the fisheries and oceans portfolio over the past six years have expanded my understanding of the needs and challenges facing Canada’s fisheries and oceans and I am excited to continue my work,” Arnold concluded.

Two other Okanagan MP’s, Tracy Gray and Dan Albas, were named to the opposition’s shadow cabinet: Albas in environment and climate change, and Gray as the critic for small business recovery and growth.
