Vernon’s second dose COVID-19 vaccination rate up from previous week

Vernon/Coldstream saw slight gains in the regional COVID-19 vaccination rate, as second dose rates rose one per cent and first dose rates saw no gains over the past week.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) reports that as of Monday, Nov. 8, the area’s first dose rate was 85 per cent, and the second dose rate was 81 per cent.

BCCDC figures show that in the Vernon/Coldstream health area, residents who are 50 years of age or older have the highest vaccination rates: 90 per cent for first doses and 88 per cent for second doses. The rates for residents between the ages of 12 and 17 are 80 per cent for first doses and 73 per cent for second doses, while 79 per cent of residents age 18 to 49 have received their first doses and 73 per cent are double dosed.

The latest figures put Vernon ninth in the region for first doses and 10th for second dose rates in the Interior. Kamloops Cente South continues to have the highest rates at 94 and 90 per cent, while Enderby and Kettle Valley share last place in both rates.

  • Penticton: 87 per cent, 84 per cent
  • Summerland: 87 per cent, 84 per cent
  • Merritt: 81 per cent, 76 per cent
  • Lower Thompson: 82 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Kamloops Centre North: 86 per cent, 82 per cent
  • Kamloops Centre South: 94 per cent, 90 per cent
  • Princeton: 83 per cent, 79 per cent
  • Keremeos: 83 per cent, 78 per cent
  • Southern Okanagan: 90 per cent, 86 per cent
  • Kettle Valley: 72 per cent, 69 per cent
  • Grand Forks: 80 per cent, 76 per cent

BCCDC data also notes that Enderby has the lowest first dose vaccination rate for the 12 to 17 demographic at 44 per cent. Enderby also has the lowest first dose rate for 18-49 year olds at 61 per cent. The lowest first dose rate for the 50+ demographic was recorded in Kettle Valley at 77 per cent.

The COVID-19 vaccination rates for the Interior as a whole as of Monday was 85 per cent for first doses and 81 per cent for second doses. The provincial vaccination rates for that same day was 90 per cent and 86 per cent.
