The Regional District of Central Okanagan is expanding the time line for the bi-annual bulky item collection so residents can dispose of large items as they continue to recover and restore their properties following the White Rock Lake wildfire.

Residents will be able to bring their unwanted large household items to the North Westside Road Transfer Station on Sugar Mountain Forest Service Road from Oct. 6 through Oct. 20.

Items can be disposed of at a cost of $20 per truckload, with payments being made with cash or cheques only.

Household waste such as appliances, scrap metal, lawn mowers, motor parts, and household and lawn furniture will be accepted over the two week period.

Hazardous materials, including computers and electronics, demolition waste, and wood or vehicles burnt or damaged from the wildfire will not be accepted.

Refrigerators and freezers will also be accepted at no charge but must be completely emptied of all contents before being dropped off.

The North Westside Transfer Station is open Monday, Wednesday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The North Westside Transfer Station is only open to RDCO residents, property owners and tenants with valid ID cards.
