North Okanagan residents looking for work or looking to change jobs can interact with four employers during a virtual job fair Wednesday March 17.

WorkBC has been hosting a monthly virtual job fair. This month the participants are the Interior Health Authority, Piscine Energetics, Cedarshed Canada and Rogers Communications.

  • Interior Health is the largest employer in the region with over 21,000 personnel.
  • Vernon based Piscine Energetics harvests and processes mysis shrimp into high quality aquarium food.
  • Cedershed Canada is a Langley based company manufacturing various cedar shed and gazebo kits sold across North America.
  • Rogers Communications is a national communications company involved in broadcasting, cellular, cable television with over 25,000 employees across Canada.

The companies will have a half hour each to provide details about positions available and what they look for in a new team member.

It is a free event, but registration is required through Eventbrite.ca.

According to the WorkBC monthly labour force survey, the regional unemployment rate in February was 7.5 per cent with an estimated 285,700 people in the Thompson-Okanagan workforce. Kelowna posted an unemployment rate of 5.6 per cent.

The Thompson-Okanagan economic region stretches from Princeton in the west to Golden and the Alberta border in the east, to Osoyoos and the Washington state border in the south.
