Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are reminding drivers that impaired driving doesn’t only happen at night.

Police report stopping a driver at 8:30 Wednesday morning (Feb. 3).

The motorist was not insured and driving on an ‘L’, and blew a fail on a roadside screening device.

A 90-day immediate roadside suspension was issued, the vehicle will be impounded to 30 days and several other tickets were issued.

“A traffic stop was conducted with the vehicle by a member of the North Okanagan B.C. Highway Patrol which led to the subsequent impaired and motor vehicle act investigation.  We want to thank them for their continued effort and contribution to road safety throughout the North Okanagan,” Constable Chris Terleski told Vernon Matters.

The driver may face a number of other hurdles to get back on the road due to being on a learner permit.

“As with alcohol, Learner and Novice drivers are not allowed to have any amount of certain drugs including THC in their system while driving. Violating this restriction will result in a suspension of driving privileges. Learner and Novice drivers could also be subject to other penalties under the Motor Vehicle Act or Criminal Code,” ICBC regulations state.
