B.C. Covid Update Thursday: 582 new cases

The province reported 582 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, for a total of 48,609 cases in British Columbia.

That included 70 cases in Interior Health.

There are 8,865 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 341 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 78 of whom are in intensive care.

Currently, 9,732 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and a further 37,784 people who tested positive have recovered.

There are 107 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 326 new cases in Fraser Health, 10 in the Island Health region, 71 in the Interior Health region, 68 in Northern Health and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

Since the start of immunizations, 8,178 people have received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in B.C.

In addition to our health-care workers, immunization of residents in long-term care is now also underway. Given seniors and Elders have been most severely impacted by this virus, this is welcome news for all of us.

There have been 12 new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 808 deaths in British Columbia.

There are no new health-care facility outbreaks, and the outbreak at Belvedere Care Centre is over. There have been no new community outbreaks.

Update on IH numbers

·         IH is reporting 70 new cases overnight, for a total of 3,510.

·         675 cases are active and on isolation.

·         Twenty-nine people are in hospital; six of them in ICU.

·         Total number of deaths in IH remains at 18.

Update on outbreaks:

·           Teck mining operations has 16 IH cases linked to the outbreak.

·           McKinney Place long term care in Oliver has 75 cases.

·           Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has eight cases.

·           Mountainview Village long-term care in Kelowna has at 15 cases.

·           Heritage Retirement Residence in West Kelowna has 14 cases.
