Entrepreneur immigration pilot lands new Vernon business

A regional immigration pilot program which started in March of 2019 to attract entrepreneur’s to Vernon has its first approval.

“It’s a two year program, and so far the committee has reviewed 32 business plans, and made three recommendations,” Kevin Poole, Vernon Economic Development and Tourism Manager said.

The first approval was given in mid-October for a pet food manufacturing business.

The entrepreneur Immigration regional pilot works with communities, and is intended to attract entrepreneurs to establish new businesses that align with the community’s economic development priorities.

Vernon’s priority sectors include food manufacturing, general merchandise stores, and professional, scientific and technical services.

Applicants must have the following to apply for immigration

  • At least either 3+ years of experience as a business owner-manager, OR, 4+ years of experience as a senior manager, OR, a combination of 1+ year of experience as a business owner-
  • Obtained a post-secondary credential, OR, experience as an active business owner-manager for at least 3 of the last 5 years with 100% ownership in the business.manager and 2+ years of experience as a senior manager.
  • $300,000 net worth and a minimum $100,000 investment.
  • Submit a business proposal to establish a new business in B.C. and be referred by an enrolled community
