Beloved local restaurant closes

Nov 5, 2020 | 2:21 PM

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another local business.

The owners of Little Tex Bistro took to Facebook Wednesday to say goodbye to their loyal customers.

The unassuming tex-mex themed eatery on 29th Street was first opened in 1992 featuring unique combinations for soups, burritos and other dishes.

Tracy and Shamis Burrell bought the restaurant in 2018 and were immediately hit with a lengthy road closure that saw business decline sharply.

Still trying to recover from the 2018 losses, the Burrell’s decided to close the restaurant on a temporary basis in March when COVID-19 restrictions came into place. They hoped to reopen in July.

The small size of the restaurant made it nearly impossible to comply with regulations and still have enough business to keep operating. At the same time a re-financing plan was denied by the restaurant’s lender.

Long time customer Michelle Stewart set up a $25,000 GoFundMe account in the summer, to try help the family business out. Over $5,000 was donated, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to allow reopening, advertising, re-licensing and so forth.

An onsite auction is planned for Nov. 14.
