A suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at two people earlier this month, was arrested in Kelowna Wednesday night by the RCMP’s emergency response team.

Police say the man, who was wanted on a warrant, is believed to be responsible for a series of violent interactions with the victims who were known to him, in recent months in Kelowna and West Kelowna.

Mounties say on Oct. 4, it’s alleged the suspect pointed a firearm at the two victims. They immediately called 911 but the suspect fled the area when police arrived and he was not located.

The victims also told police that on April 22, 2020., the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm and threatened them. No one was injured in either incident.

“The victims and suspect were known to each other. These are not random criminal acts,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, media relations officer.

“Due to the suspects escalating violent behaviour, covert plain clothes operators were tasked with bringing him into custody safely,” said Noseworthy. “Those members located their target Wednesday evening in Kelowna. To ensure public and police safety, a coordinated arrest was carried out by the Emergency Response Team, supported by additional front line officers, and a police canine unit.”

The 43-year-old Kelowna man remains in police custody, and faces numerous criminal charges.

The suspect’s name and other details are not being released.
