anti-abortion rally

Vernon Life Chain set for Saturday

Oct 2, 2020 | 1:16 PM

The Vernon and Area Pro-Life Society is going ahead with Life Chain, an anti-abortion rally held annually, involving supporters with signs lining the highway through the city.

The 2020 event will take place from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 3) and will be set up along the same route, on Highway 97 (32nd Street).

Society president Donald John said there will be a few changes this year.

To accommodate government mandated restrictions on large events, the society will use the following guidelines:

  • no large gathering beforehand as in the past;
  • masks and hand sanitizers will be provided and encouraged;
  • participants are to distance 8 feet apart from each other (unless they are from the same family);
  • the names and phone numbers or email addresses of all participants will be recorded and kept for 30 days as mandated;
  • two marshals will be located at each marshalling station to direct participants.

John said they will use three locations to register and pick up signs:

  • if the first letter of your last name starts with A to L – back entrance of the pro-life office (3105c -31st Ave.);
  • if the last letter of your last name starts with M to Z – front entrance of the pro-life office (3105c – 31st Ave.)
  • all members of the Canadian Reformed Church – parking lot at the Preforming Arts Centre (37th Ave. & 33rd St.)
