Green Party nominates familiar candidate in Vernon-Monashee
Keli Westgate will represent the B.C. Green Party in the Vernon Monashee riding for a second straight provincial election.
Westgate, an employee of Spa Hills Compost, finished third in 2017 with 21 per cent of the vote.
“We are in a pandemic and this crisis has revealed the many gaps in our economic system. From health care, education, aged care, housing, transportation and food security, we need to change the way that problems are resolved,” Westgate said in a statement. “Our community is suffering from years of cuts and neglect by successive governments. The income gap has never been higher. Climate action and
protection of our environment have never been more pressing. It is time for a fresh new perspective. ‘business as usual’ isn’t working.”
Westgate added the B.C. Greens have a fully costed plan for green jobs, skilled job training, building a new economy, ensuring a just transition to a carbon neutral society and a guaranteed livable income for all.
