Foster seeks fourth term as MLA

Eric Foster, the three-term Liberal MLA for Vernon-Monashee, still has some unfinished business and will seek a fourth term representing the local riding.

“This election is totally unneccessary. John Horgan is putting politics ahead of people,” Foster said. “The NDP has had six or seven months to put a recovery plan together. Last week they announced they are making a plan, other provinces have had plans in place for months. People don’t want any more studies, they want to get back to work. The Liberal party is better equipped to get the economy back on track.”

Premier Horgan announced Monday the province will go to the polls Saturday October 24 to determine if his minority government gets another mandate to govern during the COVID pandemic.

First elected in 2009 Foster was returned to office again in 2017 with nearly 48 per cent of the vote defeating the NDP’s Barry Dorval (29 per cent), Green Party candidate Keli Westgate (22 per cent) and Libertarian Don Jeffcoat (one per cent).

Foster had been serving as the official opposition caucus whip.

He served on a number of committees, including the Environment and Land Use Committee and the Agenda and Priorities Committee. He has been a member of the Select Standing Committees on Legislative Initiatives, Parliamentary Reform, Ethical Conduct, Standing Orders, and Private Bills, and Finance and Government Services.

Prior to his election as MLA, he was mayor of the Village of Lumby for four years, and a councillor for 12 years. He was also a director of the North Okanagan Regional District.

Foster is a registered forest technician and a past member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Auxiliary, as well as a director of the North Okanagan Community Futures Development Corporation.
