There are 269 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. and another person has died of the virus.

B.C.’s top health official, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said the new cases are those counted between last Friday to Monday.

The count shows there are eight new cases in the Interior Health region for a total of 425.

Interior Health reported that 21 cases are active and in isolation but no one is in hospital.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Adrian Dix said more than 200 people had now died of the virus in B.C., including the latest death of a person in long-term care in the Fraser Health region.

A total of 202 people have died.

There is also a new outbreak at a longterm care home, the MSA Manor in Langley, leaving the province with 10 active outbreaks within the health system.

An outbreak at Fraser Valley Packers has come to an end.

“Despite the recent outbreaks and clusters that we have seen in the past week and the rising case numbers, we still have low undetected transmission in our province,” Henry told a news conference on Monday. “We are able to find and connect most people who have this disease and we want to keep it that way. We need to keep it that way.”

Henry again stressed the importance of protecting the most vulnerable segment of the population from the virus as the pandemic stretches on.

She said 4,000 to 5,000 tests per day are being conducted.

Henry alluded to recent incidents where businesses and individuals were fined for breaking B.C.’s new COVID regulations, urging people to “do the right thing” in protecting others.

“There are many more months of this to come,” she said.
