Planned for 2021

Lakefront dog park in plans for Kin Beach

Dog owners are expected to have a site to take their dogs for a run — and a dip — by next year.

Mayor Victor Cumming says the city is planning to add a dog park on the west side of Kin Beach on Okanagan Lake.

“When you face the water from Kin Beach, the extreme right hand side where it starts to head just below Tronson Road as it curves there, we’re going to be building a new dog park there,” Cumming told Vernon Matters.

The mayor said the city is applying to the province for a small piece of foreshore in that area to allow the project to proceed.

“And the foreshore of that — just a small triangle piece of pie in front of that — is not in the hands of the city, so the city is applying for that small bit of foreshore. That should be straight forward. It’s usually provided to the upland land owner, and the City of Vernon is the upland land owner.”

The mayor says the dog park should open in 2021 after a new water intake and pumphouse are added on the property.
