UPDATE

There has been a number of accidents on the highways and other roads around Vernon, with the return of winter driving conditions.

One was on the Highway 97 overpass involving several vehicles, which Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) attended.

“Three vehicles were involved (a transport truck and two passenger vehicles),” said Christy Poirier, communications and grants manager with the City of Vernon. “The collision blocked the south bound lane for more than an hour.”

Poirier says RCMP and BC Ambulance Service were also on the scene, with paramedics attending to at least one person with a reported minor injury.

VFRS is reminding motorists to drive to the conditions as some roads are icy.

“Today’s snow and dip in temperature has created slippery conditions across the whole region. Everyone is reminded to slow down, give yourself extra time to reach your destination and ensure there is extra room between yourself and other vehicles,” Poirier added.

The North Okanagan is getting another blast of winter weather.

The snow started falling around 9:30 a.m., and according to Environment Canada, up to five centimetres could fall today, and another five to 10 centimetres Wednesday.

There has been a few accidents in the Vernon area including a two-vehicle crash at Highway 6 and Pottery Road, and another one at Highway 97 and Bailey Road.

Drivers are reminded to turn on their lights as it makes it much easier to see vehicles in the snow.

The new snow could put a damper on the road dust which went over acceptable levels Monday, and is a health issue for some people.

At this point, the province still has a road dust advisory in effect for Vernon, now into its second day.
