Incumbent Conservative Cathy McLeod has won the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding for the third time.

McLeod’s lead was substantial despite the Liberals running star candidate Terry Lake against her.

Lake, a former provincial Liberal cabinet minister, expressed his sorrow at the loss Monday night.

“I feel like I let you down,” he told volunteers, reported CFJC.

With 160 of 283 polls in and more than 37,000 votes counted, results showed:

Cathy McLeod – CON – 15,670

Terry Lake – LIB – 10,646

Cynthia Egli – NDP – 5,366

Iain Currie – GRN – 4,626

Ken Finlayson – PPC – 565

Incumbent Cathy McLeod is expected to once again win the federal riding of Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo for the Conservative Party.

McLeod has held the riding for the Tories since 2008.

With more than 11-thousand votes counted, The Canadian Press projected McLeod to retake the riding.

The Liberals had been hoping star candidate Terry Lake, a former provincial cabinet minister, could take the seat from McLeod.

Results of 55 of 283 polls show:

Cathy McLeod – CON – 4.501

Terry Lake – LIB – 3,024

Cynthia Egli – NDP – 1,455

Iain Currie – GRN – 1,215

Ken Finlayson – PPC – 182

Kira Cheeseborough – APP – 56

Peter Kerek – COM – 11
