It didnt take long for Dawson Holt to make an impact with the Vernon Vipers.

The 20-year-forward — a veteran of 237 career WHL games — scored with 54 seconds left in the third period to lift the Vipers over the Merritt Centennials 3-2 Wednesday night in Merritt.

Holt was playing in his first game as a Viper.

Another recent signing, U-S born goalie Reilly Herbst, backstopped the Snakes to their third straight win, making 29 saves.

Connor Marritt and Jackson Caller also scored for Vernon while Matt Kowalski assisted on all three goals.

It was the first game for the Cents under new interim head coach and GM Derek Sweet-Coulter, who stepped in after the firing of Barry Wolff earlier in the day.

The win evens the Vipers record at 6-6 while the Cents fall to 2-10.

In Wednesday’s other BCHL game, Salmon Arm Silverbacks (10-2-1-0) defeated the Penticton Vees 4-2, the Vees second straight loss after starting with 11 straight wins.
