Community School Will Stay Open – But With Catch

The Kamloops-Thompson School District is throwing Westwold Elementary School a lifeline.

The school in the small community west of Falkland closed last September when no students showed up on the first day of classes.

This led the Board of Education to launch a consultation process on the future of the school.

Superintendent Alison Sidow says at Monday night’s meeting, the Board of Education voted unanimously to keep the school open – with a catch.

If enrollment drops below six students by the end of September, then the school will close.

Sidow says the community still values the school, and expressed a closure would represent “the beginning of the end” for Westwold.
