Two Okanagan Heat Stars Finish University Career

Jan 27, 2019 | 9:05 AM

While it wasn’t the storybook ending Aldrich Berrios (below left) was looking for, the greatest scorer in UBCO history capped off his Heat career with a 17-point performance on Saturday night in a 82-61 to the Victoria Vikes.

Berrios finishes his career as the leading scorer in program history (1483) and the second best three-point shooter in Canada West history in terms of makes (256).

The Heat close out their Canada West season with a record of 7-13 as they will miss out on the postseason as they have a bye in the final weekend of play. If UBCO had captured Saturday nights game they still would’ve had a shot at making the postseason.

Vanessa Botteselle (below right) closed out her Heat career with another outstanding performance but the Victoria Vikes came away victorious 97-62 on Saturday night in the Okanagan gym.

Botteselle had a team-high 18 points to go with six assists and four rebounds in her final game in a Heat uniform.

It was a similar script to the night prior, as Victoria game out scorching hot to start the game and built an early 23-8 advantage after the first quarter and would only build upon their advantage from there.

UBCO finishes off their season with a 1-19 record as they have a bye in the final weekend of conference play but will return a strong squad for the 2019-20 season.
