Two Men Shot in Kamloops

Update: Shooting Victims Identified

Jan 24, 2019 | 4:14 PM

UPDATE

Police believed two fatal shootings in Kamloops Wednesday were connected to organized crime.

One man was killed outside a motel in Valleyview, and another was killed outside another motel in Aberdeen about two hours later.

The victims were 31 year old Cody Mathieu of Kamloops and 41 year old Rex Gill of Penticton.

Mathieu was known to the RCMP, but Gill was not.

“Through investigation, it is believed that organized crime was behind this violence.  Any violence in public spaces is dangerous and police believe both of
yesterday’s shootings were targeting specific people,” says a news release from Kamloops RCMP.

More than 50 officers are investigating the murders.

RCMP in Kamloops say two men who were shot in separate incidents this morning, have both died, and both are being treated as homicides.

The first victim was found shot at the Super 8 Hotel in Valleyview around 7 am, and the second man was found at the Comfort Inn on Rogers Way two hours later, and both were taken to hospital where they both succumbed to their injuries.

“Currently we have numerous police resources, both uniform and plain clothes officers investigating both incidents,” says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie. “Given that both shootings happened within two hours of each other and in public places, we are asking the public to remain vigilant and mindful of any suspicious activity they may see in the community and report it to police.”

Shelkie says the investigations are in their infancy and no further details are available at this time.

If you have any information regarding these incidents, you are asked to contact Kamloops RCMP or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers.
