Charity of Choice Chosen

Armstrong’s Interior Provincial Exhibition has chosen the Good Food Box as its Charity of Choice for this fall’s fair.

General manager Yvonne Paulson says the non profit society has been helping local residents access affordable healthy food for 18 years.

“We are proud to announce the Charity of Choice for the 120th IPE is the Good Food Box. They are a non-profit society working with local social agencies to provide produce to those in need in a social sustainable model,” says Paulson.

The Good Food Box has about 60 volunteers serving a large area of the North Okanagan; Vernon, Lumby, Westside, Cherryville, Armstrong and Falkland.

They serve and assist essentially two broad groups of people; those who find it difficult to access affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as community supporters who appreciate lower cost fruits and vegetables and help them keep their buying pool big enough that they can keep their purchasing costs low.

They currently distribute 300 – 500 boxes per month to local households. That translates to about 800 – 1500 people, depending on household and family configurations.

Funds from a 50-50 raffle and a 4-H auction will be donated to the charity .

“Come out to the IPE this year and support the Good Food Box by purchasing a 50/50 ticket at the rodeo on Sunday night or coming to the 4 H Auction on Friday at 5:00pm and bid on a sheep or lamb and donate it back to the Good Food Box.”

The IPE –- with the theme “Horsin’ Around at the IPE” — will be held August 28 to September 1, 2019.
