A key position at Vernon Fire Rescue will soon be filled.
Dwight Seymour has been hired as the department’s Deputy Fire Chief of Operations, and will start Feb. 25th.
Seymour recently held a similar role with the fire service in Okotoks Alberta, and before that, was Deputy Fire Chief in Hinton Alberta.
“In his eight years of service as a DC, he has accumulated a long list of accomplishments in organizations similar to ours,” says Fire Chief David Lind. “Dwight has an extensive background as a front line responder, eleven years with Winnipeg Fire in a busy downtown station. In this role, he was a fire fighter and a member of the ice, water rescue team.”
Vernon has also hired Sue Saunders as the Emergency Program-Emergency Support Services Coordinator.
She started her position Jan. 14th.
She most recently worked for the Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band.
“A highlight from Sue’s emergency management work occurred with her role in helping Gander Newfoundland deal with thousands of stranded airline passengers. Approximately 7,000 passengers were in the small community for almost a week after air traffic was grounded in response to the 911 terrorist attacks (in 2001). Sue’s role with the emergency program supported the essential activities required to care for those effected by the incident,” says Lind in a report to council.
Cody Grier has also joined VFRS as a frontline firefighter.
“Both Sue and Cody possess skills and abilities which will serve the department and the public very well in the years to come,” says Lind.
