Special Olympics B.C Winter Games needing more volunteers

Special Olympics B.C says more volunteers are needed for when the event comes to town on Feb 21 – Feb 23 .

Teresa Durning Harker; Special Olympics B.C Winter Games Director of Public Relations says that they are short roughly 200 volunteers, which could impact the success of the event.

Over 600 athletes from across B.C are expected to compete at the Winter Games in Vernon. Participants will be competing in events like skiing , snowshoeing and figure skating.

” It is absolutely critical for it to go off without a hitch and to have that really good volunteer support going into the games, it is only a three day sprint and we are historically able to pull that off with ease. ”

Harker says they have a variety of positions available but they are desperately seeking volunteers with medical training like nurses and care aides to take on specific roles.

Volunteer hours are flexible. Application forms can be viewed online through their website or picked up at the Special Olympics B.C Winter Games office located at Vantage One Credit Union.
