Popular Carnival Event Cancelled

Carnival Event ‘Regretfully’ Cancelled

Jan 16, 2019 | 9:58 AM

One of the popular events for Vernon Winter Carnival has been grounded.

The North Okanagan Hot Air Balloon Society says it has had to regretfully cancel the Balloon Glow on Feb 1st.

Organizers say factors like a lack of resources, both monetary and manpower, went into it, along with other factors.

A new location had been planned, other than Polson Park which has had problems with soft ground, but organizers the City of Vernon’s Parks Department requirements were too expensive for the event at the new site.

“This decision was not arrived on lightly, but could not be prevented,” says a news release issued by Winter Carnival.

Word is the field at Fulton school was being considered as the new site.

The Hot Air Balloon Fiesta is still expected to take place Feb 1st to 3rd, which will be the 28th annual.

“We’re very disappointed to hear this event has been cancelled, but we are still looking forward to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and seeing the Balloons in the sky over Vernon during the first weekend of Vernon Winter Carnival.” Says Vicki Proulx, Executive Director at Vernon Winter Carnival.
