Snowfall and Winter Weather Warnings Issued

It could be a very white next couple days in parts of the province.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope, the Roger Pass and Eagle Pass sections of the Trans Canada, and the Yellowhead Highway from Tete Jaune Cache to the Alberta border.

Environment Canada says those areas could get up to 35 centimetres of snow by Thursday.

A snowfall warning has been issued for the Shuswap with snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected by Thursday.

The Okanagan is not expected to get that much with anywhere from 6 to 12 cm’s forecast through Thursday.

“Snow will become heavy this afternoon as a Pacific frontal system stalls over southern British Columbia,” says a statement from Environment Canada. “A total of 15 to 25 centimetres of snow will fall by the time the snow eases on Thursday.

Due to the very strong flow across the Coast Mountains, the highest snow accumulations will be areas near Clearwater in the North Thompson region and areas near Sicamous in the Shuswap region. Chase, Salmon Arm and Barriere are expected to receive lesser accumulations.”

All of BC’s mayor highways are open at this point.
