Crash Death On Highway 97

It was bad and it could have been even worse.

A man in his 60s was killed in a single vehicle rollover on Highway 97, near Meadowlark Road, yesterday, confirms BX-Swan Lake fire chief Bill Wacey who attended the scene after the call came in at 10:13 a.m.

Wacey was the first official at the scene where the northbound vehicle with three people inside had crossed a number of lanes and rolled, ending up against the railroad tracks.

He says passersby had the man out of the car and CPR had begun.

Witnesses told the chief that it was a miracle no one else was killed as the vehicle narrowly missed a truck and a van full of kids.

The crash slowed southbound highway traffic into Vernon for some time as police and ambulance crews attended the scene, along with the fire department.

While CPR continued for 55 minutes, it was unsuccessful, and it’s believed the man suffered a medical condition, Wacey says.
